GE SenoClaire breast tomosynthesis utilizes advanced three-dimensional imaging technology, employing a low-dose short X-ray sweep around the compressed breast with only nine exposures. This innovative imaging technique aims to separate tissues and reduce the overlap of structures, addressing a common limitation in standard 2D mammography.

The GE SenoClaire detector ensures high Detective Quantum Efficiency (DQE) at a low dose, enabling the visualization of microcalcifications without pixel binning, a process that can compromise image quality despite enhancing readout speeds and signal-to-noise ratios. By utilizing step-and-shoot tube motion, the system maintains sharpness in microcalcifications and prevents image blur by halting the tube completely for each of the nine exposures.

Incorporating an anti-scatter solution tailored for tomosynthesis, the GE SenoClaire grid in 3D effectively reduces scattered radiation while maintaining dose efficiency and system performance. The system leverages ASiRDBT, an iterative reconstruction algorithm for calcification artifact correction, significantly enhancing off-plane images by minimizing both in-plane and out-of-plane artifacts compared to traditional Filtered Back Projection (FBP) algorithms.

With its low dose and comparable clinical accuracy, GE SenoClaire has the potential to replace digital mammography exams in screening for breast cancer detection. Furthermore, GE SenoClaire images are compatible with leading Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) providers, facilitating seamless integration into various environments and optimizing the utilization of this technology.
