A phase rotation meter can help detect motor faults not detectable by other instruments. Using a phase rotation meter on your newly bought motor or pump can ensure new or refurbished motors are good before being installed, or can monitor existing motor health for developing problems. Follow the phase sequence indicator monitors’ phase order to ensure correct installation of your expensive capital equipment. You can also use the standard 3 phase rotation meter, which includes three test leads, to determine phase order and avoid incorrect wiring, to detect phase loss, and even to determine the rotation direction of the motor or pump (available in some phase rotation meters). Standard phase rotation meters handle frequency ranges from 15 to 400 Hz and are rated for test ranges to 400 VAC or, in the Fluke phase rotation meter, up to 700 V.
