Features of breast pumps

A typical breast pump will contain the breast shield or phalange, along with tubing, and a container, along with the pump. The pumping mechanism can be electrical or it could be a handheld.

How breast pumps work

There are a number of different types of breast pumps available, and the exact mechanisms for using each one may vary. However, there are quite a few similarities between brands and models. Essentially, you will place a breast shield over the nipple and then turn on the machine, or begin pumping by hand based on the type of pump you have. This will extract the milk by mimicking the action of a feeding baby. The milk will then go into a container. It will usually take between 15 minutes to pump both breasts with an electric machine, and around 45 minutes when pumping by hand. The electric option is certainly the faster and easier choice.

About breast pumps

A breast pump is a type of mechanical device used to remove milk from the breasts of women who are lactating. Women use these pumps for a number of different reasons. Many feel that it is more efficient to use the pump to extract and then store the milk. This can be very helpful for those women who are returning to work, and who want to make sure they are still providing their baby with natural nourishment. They can simply store the milk in bottles, which can later be fed to the baby. Other times, women may have a low milk supply after they've given birth. Using the pump can help to increase the milk production.

Breast Pump Applications

Mothers are using breast pumps for a variety of reasons today, including:
  • Moms who are going back to work
