Features of dock plates
On the dock plate, you will notice that there are embossed diamonds on them. This is not for aesthetics. Instead, it helps to prevent slipping when carts, or people, are going over the plate and moving items in and out of the truck. It is a good and low cost solution for those companies that have a light amount of dock loading and that can’t afford to rework their entire dock.
How dock plates work
The plate is generally just a ramp that you can place on the back of the loading dock and onto the truck. This will ensure that there is no gap between them, making it easier and safer to load and unload items. They are just as easy to remove when you are done with them. However, depending on the material in use, the weight of the dock plate can vary. Some of them can get rather heavy and difficult for some to move on their own, even though many can move them by hand without too much trouble. The dock plates generally weigh less than the dock boards though.
About dock plates
When you have a loading dock, and you have a number of different trucks delivering and picking up items, you will soon find that there’s a problem. You need to be able to bridge the gap between the back of the truck and the loading dock. Since all trucks are different heights and sizes, this is impossible to do without the addition of a dock plate. They are a very simple tool that can make a big difference in how efficient your company is.
