Ride-On Sweeper Description

Appropriate sweeper rental or lease relies on several factors: location, debris, and the ground to be cleaned.  Construction sites should be knowledgeable about laws and ordinances regarding disposal of materials; if you would like help researching these laws consult your KWIPPED network supplier.  Consideration should be given to where the debris and dirt goes after it is swept; be sure to rent or lease a sweeper with a hopper if you need to transport the refuse.

Features of ride-on sweepers

All ride-on sweepers will have a large rotating brush and a seat with operating controls and steering wheel.  The size varies widely depending on the location of the work site.  Indoor sweepers are much smaller and have a tight turning radius; their bristles will be softer as is appropriate for cleaning flooring.  Outdoor sweepers are larger, will seat the operator in a cab, and have course bristles for cleaning pavement.

How ride-on sweepers work

Sweepers work in a variety of ways.  A large roll or disc covered with course bristles pushes the debris from the ground to one of 3 destinations: to the side, into a vacuum, or onto a conveyor belt.  The vacuum and conveyor methods take the debris to a hopper, which can later be taken to a new location and emptied.  Some sweepers look like road graders with a bristle roll substituted for the blade; these sweepers would brush and/or score the road as they roll along.

About ride-on sweepers

Ride-on sweepers are used to clean dirt, debris, and spills from large areas of floor and ground.  They come in a wide variety of sizes.  Indoor sweepers are small with a seat on top of the unit and outdoor sweepers can be quite large with the operator seated in an enclosed cab.  A large bristle-covered roll or disc sweeps the ground underneath as the sweeper is driven across a surface.  The most commonly seen sweeper is the municipal street sweeper.
