To choose the type of dozer to rent or lease from the KWIPPED supplier network, consider the material to be moved and the space you have to work in.  If you need to push your material to another location and/or flatten a space you will only need a dozer with a blade.  If you need to break up packed or solid material before moving it you will also need a ripper.  If you are working in a small space or have a smaller amount of material, you can choose a smaller dozer.  If your material is heavy, you will need the higher horsepower provided by a larger dozer.

The major features of dozers are continuous track treads, front blade, and rear ripper.  The continuous track provides traction and mobility across a variety of surfaces.  Dozers also work well across steep grades.
There are three shapes of blade.  The straight (S) blade is shorter in height and has no curve.  The universal (U) blade is much taller, has a curve, and side wings.  The SU blade is a combination of the S and U blades.  The blade can be positioned on an angle or flat across the front of the tractor.
The ripper on the rear of the tractor has a varying number of claw points.  Single point rippers are used to break up the hardest material.  Multiple point rippers are used to break up softer material in a larger area than is possible with a single point.
The cab of a dozer is situated so the operator can see behind, below, and in front of the blade.  The cab will have side and rear windows to allow the operator to see the ripper as well.  Access panels for easy maintenance come standard.

Dozers are operated with joystick control arms inside the cab of the tractor.  Blades and rippers can be lifted, lowered, and angled with one control, and the tractor moves forward and backward with another.  Some dozer models feature a convenient programmable panel that facilitates the repetitive use of blade angles and heights.
Dozers are available in several sizes.  Small dozers are especially effective in tight spaces and when speed is necessary.  Small dozers are generally under 100hp and have a blade width of approximately 8ft (2.5m).  Medium dozers are 100-300hp with blades around 13ft (4m) wide.  Large dozers are usually around 300hp but some companies offer a higher horsepower, and have blades 17ft (5m) wide and larger.

Dozers, commonly referred to as bulldozers, are a type of tractor used to move material and level ground.  They employ a continuous track instead of tires.  A continuous track is a band of metal treads turned by wheels; this is also called tank tread or caterpillar tread.  The dozer has a large metal plate called a blade on the front, which is used to push material such as soil, sand, and debris.  Dozers often have a large claw-like attachment on the back of the tractor called a ripper.  Rippers are used to loosen or break up solid materials.  Bucket attachments can replace the blade on the front of the dozer in order to operate like a backhoe while utilizing the stability of the continuous track treads.
